Elizabeth Golding (13) made an historic debut this weekend in Linz, Austria as the youngest figure skater to represent Ireland at an International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix event.

Golding competed first of all in the short programme on Friday afternoon. Skating to "Feeling Good" by Avicii, she attempted a double Lutz-double loop combination, a double Axel and a double flip. Two of her spins were graded Level 4. She smashed the Irish National Junior record with a score of 34.93 points to stand in 24th place midway.

This evening she took part in the free skating at the Keine Sorgen EisArena. A triple Salchow, double Axel-double toe loop and double Lutz-double loop combinations were among the elements she included in her routine to "Swan Lake" by Piotr Tchaikovsky. She set another two Irish Junior records at the end of the competition for the free (52.79) and overall total (87.72). Her final placement was 27th.

Junior Grand Prix Ted Barton saw a bright future ahead for Golding and he said, "She's a nice skater. Once she gets those technical elements, she is going to move up quite a ways in the standings."
