Sean McAnuff Breaks New Ground For Ireland At World Juniors

This weekend Sean McAnuff became the first Irish skater to compete at the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Innsbruck, Austria.

McAnuff raced seven times over the course of three days in 500 metre, 1,000 metre and 1,500 metre distances inside the Olympiaworld rink.

In the 500m, he progressed from the preliminaries through to the heats where he posted his quickest time of 43.347, just fractions off his Irish Junior record, to finish 30th.

In the 1000m, he recorded a time of 1:28.816, just over half a second off his best, and came 49th.

In the 1500m, he ended up with a time of 2:23.204 in 47th position.

In the overall classification for the championships, McAnuff came 36th in the final standings.

“It has been a great championships for me,” McAnuff said. “I’m looking forward to going back home and working hard to build on this experience.”
