Ryan McAnuff Races To National Record At Europeans
In the first ever appearance at an ISU Speed Skating Championships by an Irish skater, Ryan McAnuff posted a new Irish record in the 1000m on his way to finishing 33rd at the European Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Turin, Italy.
Over three days of racing, McAnuff appeared in six heats and ranking finals over the 500 metre, 1,000 metre and 1,500 metre distances.
In the 500m, he finished with a best time of 42.709 which left him in 29th overall.
In the 1000m, he set a new Irish record of 1:27.718 and placed 35th in that category.
In the 1500m, a time of 2:22.287 had him in 30th place.
In the overall classification for the championships, McAnuff came 33rd in the final standings.
“I am pleased with how I raced technically and with my times,” McAnuff said following the conclusion of the event.
He will next compete at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands in March.
